Kolkata, March 7, 2026:Calcutta Boys’ School celebrated its 149th Founders’ Day with great enthusiasm and splendour on Saturday, 7th March 2026, at the school premises located at 72, S. N. Banerjee Road, Kolkata. The occasion marked 149 years of dedicated service to the nation in the field of education and brought together members of the entire CBS family including students, teachers, alumni and distinguished guests.
The celebration commenced with floral tributes at the memorial and a prayer service, remembering the vision and contributions of the founders of the institution. Several eminent dignitaries graced the occasion, including Rev K Sardar, Rev Roshan Hansda, Ms Suchita Lal, and Mr Aktarul Islam, along with other respected guests.
In his Founders’ Day address, Mr. Raja McGee, Principal and Secretary of Calcutta Boys’ School, shared his gratitude for the remarkable journey of the institution and its commitment to fulfilling the dreams of its founders. He emphasized the school’s legacy built on the rock of ages, supported by its brilliant students and dedicated teachers—past and present. He mentioned how it was a time to remember the past and recommit to carrying on the legacy of the school. Mr. McGee further spoke about the spirit of CBS and how it should manifest itself all around the world.
Tributes were paid to the founders of the institution—J. M. Thoburn, Rev. G. Henderson, Bishop F. W. Warne and Sir R. Laidlaw, whose vision laid the groundwork for the school’s enduring legacy.
The programme featured soulful hymns and musical performances presented by students and teachers of CBS (Main) along with students from other branch schools. The event also witnessed the presence of many former students and teachers, who fondly shared memories of their days at the institution. Alumni enthusiastically revisited their classrooms and walked around the campus, reliving cherished moments and enjoying a nostalgic walk down “memory lane.”
Former teachers were also honoured and thanked for their invaluable contributions to the growth and reputation of the institution.
The celebration concluded with a special Founders’ Day fellowship dinner, where members of the CBS family gathered together in a spirit of unity and celebration.
The 149th Founders’ Day celebration once again reflected the rich tradition, unity and enduring legacy of Calcutta Boys’ School, reaffirming its commitment to shaping future generations.
