Kolkata has officially found a fresh, soulful female voice to fall in love with—Anasmita Ghosh! The talented vocalist has lent her beautiful voice to Chole Jeona, a track from Windows Production’s latest cinematic venture, Phool Pishi O Edward, directed by the iconic duo Shiboprosad Mukherjee and Nandita Roy. Composed by the eminent music director Joy Sarkar, the song is an absolute melody and a pure treat for music lovers. Anasmita’s unique, rich timber brings the perfect depth and character to the track. Reflecting on this milestone, a thrilled Anasmita shares, “Getting an opportunity to work under Windows Production was more than a dream come true. The journey from singing the scratch (for the same song) to recording the final version was exciting and a massive learning experience.”
But Anasmita is no newcomer to the music scene. Her eventful journey began back in 2014 with her debut Hindi album, MASHRUF, featuring four self-composed tracks. A powerhouse lyricist as well, she has penned beautiful lines for celebrated stars and rising talents alike, including Anwesshaa Dasgupta (Ek Subah), Antara Nandy (Jane Kyun Nahi), Shovan Ganguly (Main Hoon Tere Liye), Ronkini Gupta, and Ashwin Srinivasan (Dil Ne Jo Mere Kaha Hai). She even made a splash in Tollywood by writing a Hindi song for the Bengali film Michael (2018). Her brilliant songwriting bagged her the Best Lyricist award two years in a row at the Clef Music Awards in Mumbai (2023 & 2024) for her independent hits Sunle Maula and Ye Zindagi.
Anasmita has been steadily climbing the ladder in playback singing. From a couple of lines in Bye Bye Bangkok to soulful chorus parts in massive hits like Belashuru (Tapa Tini) and Bohurupi (Behula Sundori), she has been making every note count. She has also lent her voice to mega television serials like Rani Rashmoni and Potol Kumar Gaanwala, as well as prestigious theatre projects like Chetana’s Gandhi vs Gandhi under the guidance of top composers like Smt. Upali Chattopadhyay, Sri Prabuddha Banerjee, and Mayukh-Mainak. Hailing from the small town of Bokaro, Anasmita moved to Kolkata—the city of joy, to chase her passion. Her dedication led her to Shrutinandan, where she spent a decade training under the legendary classical maestro Pandit Ajoy Chakraborty. Blessed with strong Indian classical roots, she loves exploring diverse genres. Her expansive musical training includes modern singing from Goutam Ghosal, Rabindrasangeet from Jayati Chakraborty, Ghazal from Raju Das, rhythm and taal mathematics from Somnath Roy, and western vocal training from Diedre Lobo.
With her musical horizons constantly expanding, she is already hard at work on what comes next. “Along with live performances and commercial recording commitments, I have regularly focused on my independent projects,” Anasmita says. “And this year, I am working on a ghazal album which will contain songs composed by me as well as other composers. I plan to release the album before the Pujas.”
