hoichoi reveals the grasping Trailer of its first World Classic and highly anticipated show ‘Mandaar’

Anando Sangbad Live: hoichoi released the Official Trailer of their first series in the new World Classics category – ‘Mandaar’, today, at a press conference held at a prominent theatre auditorium in Kolkata that was adorned with lights and various elements of the show, to create the ambience of drama oozing out of every frame of ‘Mandaar’.
Mandaar, being an adaptation of Shakespeare’s Macbeth, and with the prominent characters of the show having their roots in theatre, made choosing a theatre auditorium setup as the perfect place to launch the Trailer.

The Trailer Launch event was dedicated to celebrating the exceptionally talented star cast of ‘Mandaar’ including – Sohini Sarkar, Debasish Mondal, Debesh Roychowdhury, Doyel Roy Nandy, Sankar Debnath, Lokenath Dey, Diganta Saha, Sumana Mukhopadhyay, Korak Samanta, Sajal Mondal, Sudeep Dhara and the outstanding crew from the series including – Pratik Dutta (Co-Writer), Soumik Haldar (Cinematographer), Sanglap Bhowmick (Editor), Subhadeep Guha (Music Director), Subrata Barik (Production Designer), Anindit Roy & Adeep Singh Manki (Sound Designers) along with the remarkable actor turned director and creator of Mandaar – the versatile Anirban Bhattacharya. The family of Mandaar unveiled the Trailer among industry stalwarts, media fraternity, and hoichoi team members.
Based on the timeless masterpiece – Macbeth, Mandaar is a reincarnation of the infamous tale of power & prophecies, greed & lust along with the glorious betrayals of Macbeth set along the vast shoreline of the World of Geilpur.

The Trailer reveals some of the stirring scenes introducing the characters of Mandaar on the backdrop of the seascape of Geilpur and promises distinguished performances by powerhouse actors – Sohini Sarkar as Laili (Lady Macbeth), Debasish Mondal as Mandaar (Macbeth), Debesh Roy Chowdhury as Dablu Bhai (King Duncan), Anirban Bhattacharya as Muqaddar Mukherjee, Sankar Debnath as Bonka (Banquo), Lokenath Dey as Modon (Macduff), Diganta as Moncha (Malcolm), and Korak Samanta as Fontus (Fleance) among many others.
The Trailer also uncovered the presence of the legendary characters of the three witches of Macbeth, played by Sajal Mondal and Sudeep Dhara as Mojnu Buri and Pedo, the 3rd witch being personified as a cat lovingly called Kala, in the hue of Anirban Bhattacharya’s Mandaar.

Elated about Mandaar, the exceptionally talented Sohini Sarkar, said “I have known and worked with Anirban (Bhattacharya) for many years as co-actors and, today, when we have worked in a different equation, where I was an actor and he was my director, it was a wholesome feeling. I am happy about not only getting to play such a powerful character as Laili, but also to witness Anirban in a directorial chair for the first time. ‘Mandaar’ is the kind of project that will stay in people’s minds for long.” Talking about collaborating with hoichoi once again, Sohini added, ‘’It is a double celebration for me, apart from Mandaar being hoichoi’s First World Classic, I also got to play a part I have read about, admired and anticipated to play some day; the Trailer Launch today is truly a special day for all of us.”


Talking about Mandaar’s Trailer Launch today, the creator, debut director who has also played a pivotal character in show, Anirban Bhattacharya, mentioned, ‘’It is an unparalleled moment for me to showcase the Trailer of my first Directorial venture, Mandaar, in such a grand manner in front of industry stalwarts and our media friends. I feel grateful to my entire team and hoichoi for making this day so special. Right now, I am solely cherishing every moment of making Mandaar and looking forward to the responses of people towards this passion project of mine.”
Debasish Mondal, while talking about his experience of being in and as Mandaar, said, “What I feel right now is nothing less than a dream. It is an absolute privilege and a matter of honour for me to be marking my debut with something as grand as Mandaar. Overwhelmed, will be an understatement for describing what I was feeling when I was offered such a character by Anirban Bhattacharya and hoichoi. I simply hope that I have done justice to the character, to Mandaar, and the vision Anirban and the team had while curating Mandaar.”
Slated to stream on hoichoi from 19th November, ‘Mandaar’ marks the beginning of Anirban Bhattacharya’s directorial journey.
