Two Malayalam feature films produced by Valappen Creations — Nizhal Vyaparikal (Shadow Merchants) and Swaleeh — have been officially selected and warmly received at the Swami Vivekananda International Film Festival in Kolkata.
Nizhal Vyaparikal is produced and directed by Shaju Valappen, while Swaleeh is produced by Shaju Valappen and directed by Siddik Paravoor. The films explore contemporary social realities, human values, compassion, dignity, faith and coexistence.
The cinematography of both films was handled by Jaleel Badusha, while Dr. Anaswara played the lead female role in both productions. Swaleeh has previously received recognition and awards at several film festivals for its meaningful narrative and artistic excellence.
Producer Shaju Valappen expressed his happiness over the selection, saying that such prestigious platforms provide independent filmmakers an opportunity to take meaningful stories to wider audiences.
Director Siddik Paravoor also thanked the festival organizers and audiences, dedicating the recognition to the entire cast and crew.
The festival’s award ceremony was held on September 12, 2026, with Shaju Valappen and Siddik Paravoor attending the event in Kolkata and interacting with filmmakers, media representatives and cinema enthusiasts.
