Kolkata, 21st June 2023: On the occasion of International Yoga Day, Orchids The International School hosted a spectacular event called the Yogamahotsav, where students from Grades 1 to 8 showcased their yoga skills and spread the message of health and wellness. The event took place in the school playground and garnered much attention as the students taught teachers yoga asanas. This initiative aimed to encourage healthy habits among students and faculty, promoting physical and mental well-being.
As the event progressed, the spotlight shifted to Grades 6-8, who took on the role of instructors. The students demonstrated their leadership and expertise by guiding their teachers through more advanced yoga poses. The teachers, impressed by their students’ skills and enthusiasm, wholeheartedly embraced the opportunity to learn from their pupils. It was empowering for both parties, fostering mutual respect and promoting a sense of unity within the school community.
During the event, Principal Sharmili Shah addressed the audience, “It was a delight to watch our students teaching Yoga asanas to the teachers. To ensure the continuity of this healthy habit, Orchids The International School has already incorporated yoga classes into its curriculum twice a week. These dedicated sessions will provide students with regular opportunities to practice yoga under the guidance of a trained teacher. The school aims to create a nurturing environment that supports the holistic development of its students and staff.
To commemorate the event, all participants pledged to dedicate at least 15mins to yoga daily. The pledge reflects their commitment to leading a healthy lifestyle and reminds them of the positive impact yoga can have on one’s physical and mental well-being. By making yoga a part of their daily routine, the school community is taking a proactive approach towards achieving a healthier future.
