Kolkata, 16th May 2026: From holding trembling hands during childhood illnesses to becoming a constant source of strength through years of rigorous study and sacrifice, mothers remain the first caregiver, first teacher, and often the first inspiration in every individual’s life. Long before a doctor learns to heal patients, prescribe medicines, or perform surgeries in the operation theatre, there is their mother quietly shaping the values like compassion, resilience, patience and the instinct to care for others before oneself. Celebrating this irreplaceable bond and honouring women who continue to break barriers while nurturing their children with strength and resilience, Manipal Hospitals, EM Bypass, hosted a special Mother’s Day celebration titled “To the First Healers in Every Doctor’s Life.” The programme was graced by distinguished guests, including Dr. Nandini Bhowmik, eminent Indologist, thespian and Sanskrit scholar, along with China Pal, acclaimed idol maker; Pratima Podder, bus driver; and Manasi Mridha, pink cab driver, mothers from unconventional professions who chose unique career paths while being exemplary mothers to their children, inspiring everyone with their journeys of perseverance and dedication.
In this emotional and heartfelt ceremony, the mothers of Dr. Pooja Agarwal – Consultant, Surgical Oncology (Breast Cancer Surgery), Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass; Dr. Shaswati Sengupta Datta – Senior Consultant – ENT, Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass; Dr. Niladri Konar – Consultant, Internal Medicine, Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass; Dr. Souptik Gangopadhyay – Consultant, Obstetrics & Gynaecology, Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass; and Dr. Sayan Das – Senior Consultant, Radiation Oncology, Manipal Hospital, EM Bypass were felicitated by patients present during the ceremony as a heartfelt gesture of gratitude and appreciation for nurturing the healers who continue to dedicate their lives to caring for countless patients every day. The emotional tribute celebrated the silent sacrifices, encouragement, and unwavering support of mothers who played an instrumental role in shaping both the personal and professional journeys of these doctors. The doctors also shared memories reflecting the vital role their mothers played in their lives, from guiding them through years of academic rigour to instilling empathy, discipline, resilience, and compassion. The programme served as a tribute to all mothers who continue to inspire strength, perseverance, and care within families and communities.
Speaking about the program, Dr. Nandini Bhowmik mentioned, “A mother’s love is one of the purest and most selfless forms of care that a person experiences in life. From childhood to adulthood, mothers become our protectors, teachers, emotional anchors, and strongest support systems, often putting their own dreams and comfort aside for the well-being of their families. What makes motherhood truly extraordinary is the quiet resilience with which mothers continue to guide, nurture, and stand beside their children through every phase of life. It was deeply emotional and inspiring to witness doctors honouring their mothers today, because behind every successful individual, there is often a woman whose strength, patience, and sacrifices remain unseen yet invaluable. Celebrations like these remind us to pause, reflect, and express gratitude to the women who shape our lives with endless love and care.”
Through this heartfelt initiative, Manipal Hospitals once again highlighted the human side of healthcare by honouring the mothers whose unwavering support, sacrifices, and values help shape compassionate doctors, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment towards empathy, gratitude, and community connection beyond clinical care.
