Swarnim International School Commits itself to Wholesome Development of the Child

Kolkata, Nov 2022: Young students are some times forced to leave the city to move westward for better education and it is imperative that they are retained by providing world class education which would also make them more employable.

To discuss the various innovative initiatives of SIS and create a structured road map for students, SIS organised a panel discussion attended by Founder Director Swati Sarawagi, Principal Rumjhumi Biswas and renowned actress and mother of a toddler Koneenica Banerjee on Thursday November 3 at the school premises.

“We want to give children. state-of the-art infrastructure, qualified, experienced and caring faculty and we want to create a new benchmark of excellence in education which is international in its approach while preparing a child for CBSE. Currently we are running from playgroup to the 8th standard, growing a class year by year. We are incorporating the Mutiple Intelligences Theory in our rooms to cater to all the different children’s needs,” said Founder Director Swati Sarawagi.

The youngest school to get International Dimension in Schools from British Council (formerly International School Award), SIS had international collaboration with schools from UK, Egypt and Pakistan. “Even before single use plastic was banned, the school had a ‘no plastic policy. Wellness, well-being and education , we have an inclusive policy where all our students participate in all activities. Innovative activities like Student Led Conference, where child showcases their learning to the parent by becoming their teacher, Reading Week where different activities are planned to encourage reading , Kindness Week to instill empathy; Fruit Week to become fruit champ encouraging children to eat different fruits every day of the week, stress on community service and mental health, daily meditation and yoga are some of the activities that are implemented at the school. The Reading week concept has won us many accolades including the Reading and Library Culture Award thrice,” said Principal Rumjhumi Biswas.

Ms Sarawagi further added, “When we were growing up, it was a lot of rote learning, but now it’s a lot more experiential. We are trying to equip students with problem-solving skills, which will equip them to be leaders of tomorrow. We want the children to know HOW to think, not WHAT to think.”

SIS has many co-curricular engagements like art and craft, calligraphy, dance, photography, speech and drama, pottery, music, entrepreneurship club and more. Activities help students to attain fluency and confidence very quickly.

An MS certified school, every teacher of SIS has a laptop, there are smart boards in every room. Classrooms are air-conditioned to increase student attention and concentration. Some of the student achievement in 2022 include Ayush Maity ranked 2nd in Inter School Maths Olympiad 2022 organised by Pathfinder Institute and six students qualifying for scholarships for the International Reading Olympiad (IRO).
