Desun Hospital achieves a rare feat once again

✍️By Special Correspondent

Mr Mantu Kunti, 67yrs, gentleman was brought to our emergency with an incidentally detected thoracic aortic aneurysm, which means that the aorta descending from heart carrying fresh blood had developed a bulge almost to the point of rupture.
Eventually on thorough work-up, it was detected that the aneurysm was confined to the descending thoracic (chest area) aorta just distal to the origin of left subclavian artery without any involvement of the abdominal aorta, which was right in the centre of the chest above abdomen area. It was also detected on angiogram, that the right internal carotid artery (the main blood supply to the brain) was also critically stenosed or blocked. The dimensions of the aneurysm were approximately 68 x 78 mm without any signs of dissection. Further investigation revealed a normal CAG (coronary angiogram). Patient was known hypertensive and known patient of chronic obstructive airway disease (COAD) without any other significant comorbidities.
A team was created comprising of Cardiovascular surgeon, Interventional cardiologist, Interventional radiologist, Critical care specialist, Anesthesiologist and Medical administration of Desun Kolkata, to complete the procedure. Mutual decision was made to go for an Endovascular Aneurysm Repair (EVAR) and right internal carotid artery stenting for Mr Kunti considering all the clinical and radiological parameters. Accordingly all necessary equipments and consumables were arranged. One hybrid operation theatre (an OT having both surgical and interventional facilities) was created, first of this kind at our esteemed organisation. Desun Kolkata successfully performed two major procedures namely, right internal carotid artery stenting with distal embolic protection and EVAR at the same setting on 10/02/2022. The peri operative course was completely uneventful. Post procedure, Mr Kunti followed a steady course of recovery without any major concerns in any clinical field. He is now completely stable, discharged and happy with his family.
“It is not everyday that we come across such cases and handing over the patient back to their families in recovered condition gives us immense joy and satisfaction. We are always ready to support critical emergencies 24×7 and have instuted emergency team of senior Doctors to attend and salvage such cases back to good health.” – Says Director Tapas Mukherjee
