Kolkata, 5th March 2025 –The Rotary Club of Salt Lake Metropolitan (RCSLM) hosted An Evening with Dr. Kumar Vishwas on April 5, 2025, at Science City, Kolkata. This exclusive event blended poetry and philanthropy, uniting professionals and change makers to support transformative community initiatives.
Founded in 2008, RCSLM is a CSR-registered service club with 25+ esteemed members, including doctors and social leaders, dedicated to humanitarian causes. The club’s impactful projects had improved countless lives, focusing on healthcare, livelihood, and sustainability.
Key initiatives included Dignity in Mobility, which had provided 550 wheelchairs, and Project Prayaas (Muluk), a hospital-on-wheels that had delivered critical healthcare to underserved communities. Matri Raksha, a flagship project addressing anaemia in women, had already benefited 5,000 women, with a goal to reach 15,000 more. Andhere Se Ujala had restored vision for 5,000 cataract patients.
Beyond healthcare, RCSLM had empowered individuals through vocational training in electrical work, driving, and bedside assistance. Project Swabhlamban had helped 550 unemployed youths earn a living through cycle vans and rickshaws, while Project Gowshaala had provided milk-yielding cows to 20 families in Mathurapur for sustainable income.
Project Dignity had improved rural sanitation by building 60 low-cost toilets and seven rainwater harvesting ponds, enabling multi-crop farming in Amta. The club had also installed three water filters in the Sundarbans to provide clean drinking water.
Looking back, RCSLM had planned to expand Matri Raksha with 150 health camps and launch Shoring the Shores, a project to plant 2.5 lakh mangrove saplings in Gadkhali, protecting embankments and local livelihoods. Funds raised from An Evening with Dr. Kumar Vishwas had directly supported Matri Raksha and Shoring the Shores, making a lasting impact on healthcare and environmental sustainability.
RCSLM had invited media partners, corporate sponsors, and individuals to join this noble cause and be part of an evening of cultural brilliance and meaningful change.
